About the Tebhaga movement:

  • Tebhaga movement was  a sharecroppers movement where 2/3ths of share were demanded by farmers and ¼ by the landlords.
  • It means three shares of harvests and the sharecroppers were referred to as Adhiars.
  • This movement was a significant form of peasant agitation that was initiated by the Kisan Sabha. They were known as the communist party of India in the year 1946 or 1947.
  • One of the main reasons why this movement arose was due to share cropping system existing in Bengal
