Lichens are the organisms that are formed by the symbiotic association of the filamentous fungus (mycobiont) and the microscopic green algae or cyanobacteria (the photobiont or phycobiont). Fungus provides attachment, moisture, minerals to algae & in turn algae provides food through the process of photosynthesis.
