1. Many official records are available for the modern period of history. For instance, records of activities and transactions by the Europeans - the Portuguese, the Dutch, the French and the English.

2. Memoirs and travel accounts of Englishmen tell about the 18 and 19 centuries. For example the historical works of Lord Curzon, W.W. Hunter, Sir Alfred Lyall, S.N. Banerjee and Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

3. Autobiographies and Biographies, for example Mahatma Gandhi's 'My Experiments with Truth' and Jawaharlal Nehru's 'Towards Freedom'. Judith Brown's biography on Mahatma Gandhi.

4. Newspapers which reflect opinions and provide chronology of events.
