In a democratic government, there are three organs -legislature ,executive and judiciary .the legislature makes the laws. the executive enforces the law. the judiciary punishes the law- breakers and settles disputes.
It interpret our laws the judiciary protects the right of the citizens and settles the disputes between the centre and the states.
supreme court of India is at the apex of the whole judicial system. then there is a high court for each state or group of states. under high courts there is a hierarchy of a subordinate courts. Panchayat courts also function in some States under various names such as a nyaya Panchayat, Panchayat Adalat ,gram kachehri etc.
