Answers
Answer:
• Some of the most distinct features of the river Brahmaputra when it enters in the Indian territory are, the high speed of the river, the braided river pattern, and its alluvial deposition.
Explanation:
• Brahmaputra river originates near the Mansarovar lake in Tibet, here the river is held sacred and is called as Yarlung Tsangpo.
• It runs parallel to the Himalayas, before taking a sharp U- turn near the Namcha Barua ranges before entering India through the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
• Here, in the upper valley of Arunachal Pradesh it is known as Siang. Since it dissents from height very rapidly, it flows with very high speed, and high water currents.
• Later, when it enters the plains of Arunachal Pradesh it is called as Dihang.
• Before entering Assam, it is joined by it's two major tributaries the Dibang and the Lohit rivers.
• After entering Assam its speed decreases and the river expands.
• Here it shows it's braided properties, in which the river is dissected into various small channels, and covers vast areas of the region.
• Here, it also starts deposition of the alluvial slits, forming various small islands. The largest river island in the world, Majuli is in the state of Assam.
• From there, it leaves India and enters Bangladesh, where it is known as Jamuna. It joins with Padma ( Ganges) to form Meghna river, and forms the world's largest delta, the Sundarbans and finally drains in the Bay of Bengal.
