The dowry and the child marriage system is one of the worst evils in the Indian society since the ancient times which is still being carried out in the name of ritual. The demand for dowry is extending which is a sad fact of today's Indian society. bride's family are still forced for dowry.
What is dowry?
The property and money that a bride brings along with her to her husband's family at the time of marriage is termed as 'dowry'.
It is a boon for the husband while a curse for the wife and her family. It brings wealth in the form of cash, jewellery,etc. While a matter of regret and sadness for the bride's family. The demand of dowry doesn't stops once the marriage is done it continues even after that, the bridegroom's family keep on demanding for various things whatever they need in the name of help.
Another evil which is really a stigma on the Indian society, we Indians should feel ashamed for practicing or encouraging, supporting this evil. Yes! I am talking about child marriage. Seriously, how can even people think of child marriages. How can people misuse the immaturity among the children and abide them in such a responsible relationship like marriage! Even though strict actions are taken against this but still this shameful ritual is performed in many parts of our country. The most ugly part is when you see police officers attending child marriage!
People have to change their mentality towards these unjust rituals which is more like playing with other's life rather than a ritual.
Educating people and spreading awareness among people about this unjust ritual can be very beneficial but the condition is again the same people should first change their way of thinking towards the ritual and traditions which were made millions of years ago. We don't need to preserve and follow each and every ritual or tradition made by our ancestors. We should change and develop with the development of time and world.
Making women self dependent, Yes! This will surely help to a great extent to stop or reduce the dowry system or child marriage. The mass media should perform their role in this case of such unjust rituals. The power of media can change the whole world. The government should make effort to deal with such issues in a very strict manner. Every gender should be equally treated and given equal opportunities for their growth.
These steps may help to a great extent to eradicate the evils of dowry system and child marriage.
