**PLASTICS - USES, MERITS, DEMERITS, ETC.**
PLASTIC - A GENERAL INTRODUCTION : Plastic is very common material around us and we are using it in our everyday life. Bucket, mug, pencil box, lunch box, chair, table, comb, etc. are some of the articles made of plastic.
CHARACTERISTICS OF PLASTIC : Plastics have many characteristics and the typical characteristics among them are as follows :
Plastics are light materials.
Plastics are strong.
Plastics are durable.
Plastics are also inexpensive.
Plastics are resistant to weather conditions.
Plastics can also be recycled and re-used.
SCIENTIFIC DEFINITION OF PLASTIC : A plastic is a synthetic material which can be moulded or set into any desired shape when soft and then hardened into a permanent shape to produce a durable article.
TYPES AND DEFINITIONS : Plastics are generally of two types, namely, Thermoplastics and Thermosetting plastics.
Thermoplastics are the plastics which can be melted repeatedly by heating and can be moulded again and again into different shapes.
Examples :- Polythene, PVC, Polystyrene, Acrylic or perspex, Teflon, etc.
Thermosetting plastics are those plastics which once moulded into a shape does not become soft on heating and cannot be moulded again.
Examples : Bakelite, Formica and Melamine,
USES OF PLASTICS :
They are used for making polythene bags.
They are used for making pipes.
PVC is used in the fields of furniture, soles of shoes, etc.
Bakelite is uesd in making switches, buttons, electric plugs, etc.
Acrylic is used in windows of aeroplanes and windscreens of cars.
But, however, all of these are from the side of "MERITS OF PLASTICS".
Plastics, on the other hand are non-biodegradable and severe air-polluting agents. This is the main demerit of using plastic.
Plastics when burnt release harmful gases like CO2, SO2, Oxides of nitrogen, etc. to the air.
Besides air pollution, plastics can also cause water and soil (land) pollution because if we throw any plastic materials into any water bodies or land areas, then it will try to get decomposed on the surface of land / on the water.
ACTUAL METHOD OF REDUCTION IN USAGE OF PLASTICS
Instead of plastics, we have to use some other suitable biodegradable materials which can be able to replace plastic in a environment-friendly way.
CAN ANY MODIFICATION IN ITS DISCOVERY?
Although, in its discovery, no such modifications can be done because plastic is already a discovered material which is non-biodegradable, air-polluting, water and land polluting too.
Hence, I have both good and bad experiences with plastics which i discussed above in details.
According to me, no such new can be done in its discovery and even if it is done, no profit. So, it should be replaced with biodegradable, non-polluting, suitable and environment-friendly materials and without any doubt it is our duty as a Citizen to look after the environment which is getting polluted severly day-by-day.

• A plastic is a type of synthetic or semi synthetic material that is also called polymer ...
• It is a material that is non biodegradable , plastic can't be disposed....
• It is flexible means , can change its size and shape...
√ Today we are using the plastic bags so much almost in every item we prefer to pack in plastic bags but we should reduce the usage of plastic as we know it is harmful...
So by following these steps we can somewhat reduce the usage of plastics...... :-
• Use the eco friendly paper and jute bags in place on plastic polythene...
• Use stainless steel for utensils except plastic...
• Use wood chairs and furniture to avoid plastic...
• By reduce , reuse and recycle means if you compulsory have plastic use then follow 3 r ...
√ So, if we stop to use the plastics , in our life the following changes may be occur.... :-
• As we know plastic has become the part of our daily use goods so if we stop to use it we fell some difficulties...
• We may can't decide that how to pack our items because mainly we prefer to plastic polythene...
• We feel strange by using wood furniture suddenly....
√ Merits of plastic using :-
• Plastic is not so costly as it fit with budget...
• It is very light in weight...
• It can be coloured , so looks attractive....
• No junk or other chemical reaction create disturbance in usage of plastic......
√ De merits of plastic using... :-
• Plastic is bon bio degradable , so it is harmful to use for environment...
• If we dispose it into water it may kill aquatic animal...
• If we dung it into soil it may cause less fertility of soil...
• If we burn it , then the harmful gases will release the cause health issues and air pollution ...

Plastics become a serious matter of concern , so Japanese scientist formed a catalyst that can digest plastic , so if it works it will be very good for our environment...
√ My experience about plastic :-
Actually I went on a school trip to Jaipur Rajasthan , and our school hardly refuses to use plastic bags at any cost , and when I was just doing shopping with friends then the shopkeeper gave my antique piece in polythene bag , I refused to take it because it was not allowed , but there was no option because I had to purchase it and no other method to carry it ... Then I purchase it with plastic bag then I tried hard to hide it with my teachers and succeed at a level but on the last day of school we were collecting our all the items then by mistake I pulled out that bag out of my bag and my teacher saw it but I told him everything then she accepted ...
