WORK :

When a force causes a displacement in it's own direction i.e. in the direction of the force applied , work is said to be done

Without causing a displacement , a work is not said to be done

The product of force and displacement is called work

It is represented as

Work done = force × displacement

UNITS OF WORK :

S.I units = joule or N-m

C.G.S units = erg or dyne-cm

1 joule = \mathsf{{10}^{7}}erg

NOTE :

We do not recognise mental works like reading , thinking in physics even though it needs energy because , work must needs displacement
