Subject :- Overcharging problem caused by shopkeepers, vegetable and fruit vendors.

Respected Sir/Ma'am,

I would like to draw the attention of the authorities and the people through the esteemed column of your newspaper regarding the overcharging problems caused by shopkeepers, vegetable and fruit vendors.

As we all know that the whole country is under lockdown due to corona pandemic. The life of everyone has come to a halt and it has become difficult to manage expenses from home as the work life is also disturbed. Many people who work in the private sector are either receiving half salaries or no salaries. Also, the people who are self-employed, they have no sources to earn money as their work depends on the public. At such a crucial time, the shopkeepers, vegetable and fruit vendors are selling items in black. They are overcharging to such an extent that it has become very difficult to afford the basic necessities now. I am aware of the fact that it's not only us who are facing money problems but also these people, but they just can't ask for hefty amounts which are out of reach of majority of people. Such overcharging will lead to more problems in future as no one will be willing to buy items from them. We all belong to middle class families and it has created a lot of problems in our lives.

It is a request to take a serious action against such vendors and shopkeepers as according to law, selling items in overcharged prices is not acceptable. The government has fixed prices for all the commodities but these people are still not following the guidelines. Such shops should be sealed by the government and a fine should be imposed as well. Also the vendors should be either forbid to sell fruits and vegetables or they should be strictly advised to follow the prices fixed by the government otherwise the public will boycott buying items from them.

I know that they are also facing problems like us. In such a situation, the government should provide them with benefits in order to manage their lives but using the public by asking hefty amounts is just not acceptable as we ourselves are facing a lot of problems.

I hope my request will be taken into consideration and an action would be taken regarding the same.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Diksha Verma
