Sargam is a way of assigning syllables to names of the notes in a or a al scale. The sargam syllables are: Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa Dha, Ni, and Sa' in  the octave. It is also called a singing exercise with notes. while pressing note of Sa, we sing Sa then Re and we say Re and so on.  Sargam is  also a vocal exercise in which the notes  are used. It has the dual purpose of vocalization and finger practice.
