The Reign of Pharaoh Tutankhamun in Egypt
Tutankhamun reigned in Egypt for about 10 years, between 1332 and 1323 BC.
Who was Tutankhamun's wife?
There is little known about Ankhesenamun which means "she lives through Amun" or "living through Amun". In her early years she was originally known as Ankhesenpaaton, meaning "she lives through the Aten" or "living through the Aten". The difference in her name occurred because of the change in the form of worship from one god to another. First, her god was Aton "known as the Disk of the Sun" and later it was changed to the god Amun "known as the hidden one".
She married Tutankhamun when she was almost thirteen years old, due to many historical theories, she was probably his half-sister. King Tut was possibly eight years old when he married her. This historical period is known as the Amarna period.
What was King Tut's illness?
Tutankhamun died prematurely at the age of 19 in 1324 BC. He was the son of Akhenaton, the heretic king, who banned the cult of Amun and attempted to form a new monotheistic religion worshipping only the god Aten.
