Aim: To understand fractions
Materials Required: 2 Pizzas
Procedure:-
Take one pizza and cut it into two pieces.
Have a friend eat one of the two parts.
They have now eaten 1 out of 2 parts of the pizza; half of it, thereby making it 1/2.
Take another pizza and cut it into four pieces.
Have a friend eat three parts and the other friend eat one (the remaining part).
Friend A has now eaten 3 out of 4 parts; three - fourth of it, thereby making it 3/4.
Friend B has now eaten 1 out of 4 parts; a quarter of it, thereby making it 1/4.
Observation: Number of slices eaten and total slices determine the fraction.
Conclusion: A fraction is a part of a whole.
Eg: 3/4: 3 out of 4
Eg: 0/4: 0 out of 4
Eg: 2/2: 2 out of 2
