Since test tube B has boiled rice which were chewed for 3-5 minutes, the saliva present in mouth has acted upon starch to break down into sugars. ... Boiled rice in test tube A has not been exposed to saliva, so starch is present which is indicated by blue-black colour on addition of iodine solution.

Take 2 test tubes and name them A and B

In test tube A add some boiled rice(mashed)

In test tube B add some chewed boiled rice

Add iodine in both test tubes

The colour change could be observed only in test tube A

we know that iodine changes into blue black in a presence of starch

we could conclude that the saliva has broken down starch into sugar
