Dark colors don’t absorb heat. They absorb visible light, hence why they are dark, and visible light is a form of radiation energy. Objects that absorb this radiation become warmer. If there’s a lot of light around, such as outdoor, then the objects become noticeably warmer.

Heat itself cannot be absorbed, but hot objects also emit radiation. If they are really hot, like our sun, then they emit visible light. If they are just warm, then they emit infrared light.

All objects both emit and absorb radiation, as well as reflecting it. Darker color objects tend to absorb more radiation than they emit or reflect, so they get warmer.

Light color objects will reflect more light so there’s less energy to absorb relative to a darker object.
