Answer:

From an epic saga like Homer’s Odyssey to a short story by Jack London set in the frozen north, there’s nothing like a great adventure story. The tension of the protagonist’s journey creates a pulse-pounding, adrenaline-pumping storyline. Writing fiction with an adventurous plot requires certain elements to engage readers’ minds and create maximum suspense.

From J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy novel trilogy Lord of the Rings to J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, many adventure books follow a similar formula; the hero’s journey, first identified by literary professor and author Joseph Campbell, is the most popular narrative structure of an adventure novel. The main components include:

A hero: The main character of an action-adventure story will most often start out as an ordinary person before they embark on their adventure.

A quest: The protagonist will be presented with a problem they need to solve. This quest will ignite the plot with a series of events that create the storyline.

An unfamiliar environment: The protagonist’s journey will take them from their familiar, everyday surroundings to a new, unfamiliar environment. This unfamiliar terrain will create conflict, like character versus nature or character versus the supernatural. Being in a strange land will create greater risks for the main character that increase tension.

My greatest adventure is when I joined the summer expedition to climb the highest peak in Turkey and the Armenian plateau, the Mount Ararat from June 29 to July 4, 2009. Mount Ararat is a snow-capped and dormant compound volcano in the eastern extremity of Turkey. It was exhilarating to successfully reach the summit of Mount Ararat with an elevation of 5,165 meters (16,945.54 feet) on July 2, 2009. It was quite an unusual and challenging mountaineering experience. My friends and I didn’t encounter any altitude sickness. There were climbers in other groups who didn’t make it and had to turn back to the base camp. Our group had six months training to prepare ourselves for the climbing, hiking and trekking. Our guide from Georgia was very professional. It was a true travel adventure experience!
