Given  : Mr. and Mrs. Santos own a laundry shop.

They had 134 customers this week, 18 fewer than last week.

To Find :  Write an algebraic equation for the number of customers they had last week.

Solution:

Assume that number of customers they had last week. = C

They had 134 customers this week, 18 fewer than last week.

18 fewer than last week.  = C - 18

They had 134 customers

Equate both

=>   C - 18 = 134

or

C = 134 + 18

=> C = 152

Number of point  opponent scored = S

Team scored three less than thrice as many points as their opponent.

= 3S - 3

total score at the end of the game was 108

 3S - 3  = 108

=> 3S = 111

=> S = 37

Opponent scored  = 37  points
