Answer:
Pather Panchali (Bengali pronunciation: [pɔtʰer pãtʃali]; transl. Song of the Little Road) is a 1955 Indian Bengali-language drama film written and directed by Satyajit Ray and produced by the Government of West Bengal. It is based on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's 1929 Bengali novel of the same name and is Ray's directorial debut. It features Subir Banerjee, Kanu Banerjee, Karuna Banerjee, Uma Dasgupta and Chunibala Devi. The first film in The Apu Trilogy, Pather Panchali depicts the childhood of the protagonist Apu (Subir Banerjee) and his elder sister Durga (Uma Dasgupta) and the harsh village life of their poor family.
Explanation:
Pather Panchali is the debut film of Ray and the first film of his 'The Apu trilogy'. The Pather Panchali had a universal humanist appeal. The film deals with the grim struggle by a poor family for their survival, it has no trace of melodrama. The respect for human dignity is well explained in this film.
The most loveable character is of Indir Thakrun who is an old, cynical, loving and storytelling aunt of Apu and Durga. It was beautifully played by an 80-year-old Chunibala, a retired theatre performer who relished coming back into the limelight after the 30 years of obscurity. The sequences of the Apu and the elder sister Durga, exploring their little world and sharing secrets are most remarkable aspects of the film. The film develops its characters and the atmosphere slowly and beautifully. The narrative builds up to a powerful climax as we start to empathise with the characters.
