Zoos: Protection or captivity?
Every day 100 species perish from the earth. Either humans destroy their areas of residence or hunt them till they are finished. Can zoos or national parks save them from being destroyed?
Keeping wild animals has been a hobby of nobles and king emperors. About four thousand years ago, the Shia Maharaja had few animals in China. After this, the Assyrian king of Mesopotamia kept crocodiles and some hunters kept birds. But the reason for doing so at that time was not conservation of animals. This concept is of modern Zoo, because the living areas of many animals started decreasing. More than seven billion people need food and food, and for this, forests are constantly being converted into fields and the living space of animals is decreasing.
Most zoo enclosures are very small, and rather than promoting correct information for or about animals, symptoms often provide little more statistics than an animal’s species, diet, and herbal range. Animals’ regular behavior is seldom discussed, much much less observed, because of the reality their natural desires are hardly ever met. Birds’ wings can be clipped in order that they cannot fly, aquatic animals often bypass without adequate water, and lots of animals who naturally live in big herds or family organizations are stored on their own or, at most, in pairs.
Natural hunting and mating behaviors are in truth eliminated by way of regulated feeding and breeding regimens. Animals are cautiously confined, lack privacy, and have little opportunity for intellectual stimulation or physical exercise. These situations regularly result in weird and self-destructive behavior, known as “zoochosis.”
Thus it can be observed that zoo can cause deprivation and captivity of wild animals.
