Of all the problems ailing the entire mankind, population is the most threatening. Population and better life conditions have inverse relationship. The less the number of people living an area, the less the stress on natural resources; the less the production waste material that causes hygiene and health related problems. Have you ever wondered why there is so much squalor and filth in India? Well, these problems are directly related to the problem of population.
Larger population means more people to use and share natural and national resources also. Let’s try to understand it with an example. Let’s assume a country has 100 liters of milk, 100 eggs, 100 homes, 100 toilets, 100 vehicles, 100 apples, and so on. Let’s assume this country has 100 people living in it. Each person living in this country will have one thing each. Now let’s assume the number of people in this country becomes 1000! What will happen? Don’t you think there will be crises of many things? People will have less of everything. There will be survival emergency! The worst affected lot will be children!
Large families will mean larger consumption of water, food, oxygen, and other natural resources. When these natural resources will be used, their by-products in the form of sewage, carbon-dioxide, etc. will be quite harmful. When not treated or disposed of scientifically they will lead to serious health problems. Since sanitation, garbage disposal system and infrastructure will be very poor in countries with large populations, the outcome will be squalor and filth everywhere. The maintenance of cleanliness and human waste management will be Herculean issues, which will further affect health and development of children.
The truth is world is facing a much more severe emergency than shown in the example above. The need of the hour is not only to create proper waste management infrastructure in cities and villages, but control of population also. The Government and people must join hands to control population all across the developing countries. We must remember the less the population, the better is the quality of life.
