Nigeria, the giant of Africa gained her independence from Britain in 1960 and all our political leaders, military and civilian have been men up to date. However, I think the time has come when we have to consider a woman option as a our president I know that Nigerian men will think otherwise and argue against such a proposition. From independence to date, ten men have ruled Nigeria at different times. It is time we had a woman president in our nation.
First, a woman president is urgently needed right none because men have disappointed Nigerians hence, we need a change. It ten men have ruled and there is no positive change, let us try a woman and see what happens. This method has been tried in some countries such as Britain and India to mention but a few, and they recorded a great deal of success. This is to further buttress the saying that ‘what a man can do a woman an do it better.” We need a change and a radical departure from the primitive idea that a woman cannot rule a country.
Secondly, a woman is naturally endowed with sympathy and this is what is needed to overcome our problems in the country. Most of the military rulers who have ruled us in recent yeas were dubious, inhuman and callous. Indeed, they had no sympathy for t heir fellow countrymen and women. If they had, no single individual would hold the whole nation to ransom by arresting and detaining hundreds of targeted opposition leaders. In fact we need a woman president to heal the would inflicted by our past men leaders. A woman president will not promulgate draconian decreases to ether punish certain people or cow experienced Nigerians from constructive criticism which is an ingredient of growth in modern society.
Furthermore, a woman president is needed if we need accountability as our watchword. Nigerian men leasers, both military and civilians have not lived up to expectation as far as this is concerned. They get to the revered position only t o loot our treasury. They amass wealth by keeping fat foreign bank accounts in nearly all the developed countries of the world, yet they deceived us by advising us to show transparent honesty in whatever we do. We have had enough of deceit and financial impropriety from our men leaders, no woman can behave the way they have done. This is because women naturally show human feeling as mothers.
In addition, women are endowed with wisdom. That is why they run the affairs of their various homes with dedication and uprightness. They are the ones who bring up children and embark on commercial activities to maintain their families. This sense is needed today in the country so that a woman president will help us manage our financial and material resources to take our country to the promised land. Unless this is done, we are doomed because a man-president in the new political dispensation will continue to marginalize women who have the technical solutions to our national problems.
Finally, if democratic principle and ideology are to be followed, then we need a woman president. Our population now is about a hundred million and females account for about sixty-five percent. Also statistics have shown that female-voters account for over seventy percent of votes at any election in the country. If all these are factual what then prevents a woman from becoming a president in Nigeria? Nothing of course, except the few disgruntled male politicians who deceive the populace that only men have the magic wands to bring prosperity to the nation. May be that is why male politicians bribe the electorate to the tune of billons of naira to win elections at all costs. No woman will ever spend or bribe to win elections, as they see it as a call to service.
In conclusion, it is my hope and aspiration that the Nigerian electorate in their millions will now reconsider their stands and elect a woman as our next president. This becomes quite mandatory if only we need transparent, honesty, accountability and service to humanity to dominate our life as a nation.
