LUDHIANA: To imbibe healthy-eating habits in primary-class children, various city schools have come up with a novel method. They tell parents to give nutritious food in tiffins to their wards. Parents are given a menu card that lists food items for each week day. Ryan International School principal Gurpreet Kaur said, "Parents are given a menu and a wide choice. Five days a week are dedicated to healthy food. Monday is nutritious day, Tuesday delicious day, Wednesday rice day, Thursday bread day and Friday fun day.'' Kundan Vidya Mandir School principal Navita Puri said, "A five-day menu is given to parents when a new session starts. On the sixth day, Saturday, students can bring whatever they like. And the menu is changed every month... we remove some dishes and add others so that students do not get bored of these.'' BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School principal Paramjeet Kaur said, "It's
important that parents understand the importance of healthy food. Usually, in mornings, they are in a hurry and so, they give their kids fast food which is easy to cook and
less time-consuming. To check it, we give a menu card to them.'' Mother's Pride School director Shoban Soi said, "Apprising parents of nutritious food is not enough. And so, every day is dedicated to a healthy food item that kids bring in their lunch boxes.'' Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, principal Sister Chantal said, "To keep students away from junk food, parents have been told to give them home-made food in tiffins and they are allowed to go to the canteen once a week.''
