Answer:

Indian women suffer a lot if by fate they are born in the wrong family.

As long as things are fine whether rich or poor, they have a good family, parents husband and children they lead good decent lives. All they need is atleast one good support to over come any problems, tortures or health issues. If nothing the laws and police are also there for them. The human rights, women rights and women police station have made life much better in our male dominated Indian society.

But there is one group who still lead a very pathetic life. These are the widows with or without children whose families abandoned them in Mathura or Brindavan. The main reason is to usurp their dead husband's property by the selfish families. They are left in orphanages or ashrams presumed to lead a simple holy life till death. The ashrams are run by private trusts.

But actually what happens is they are preyed upon by men, business men on work, and the men who run the ashrams in exchange for things as simple as timely food and saris. Some are into full time prostitution to collect funds for the ashram. They are forced to become SEVADASI, which means a woman who offers all services to the Dharmasthala board members, his guests and donaters. Here services include sex too. Sexual exploitation is at its maximum here, for pathetic returns.

You can find widows from the age of 12 to 70s here. Most are from Bengal, Rajasthan, Bangladesh, and Uttar Pradesh. The older women are on the roads begging for alms.

Just imagine your daughters, mothers, sisters, wife in this condition. It is very inhuman and pathetic. Sometimes they feel SATI was a better option.(SATI.. Is an old tradition of jumping into the funeral pyre of the husband, like a suicide with rituals ! Now it is banned in India)

Diseases like tuberculosis,, Std and AIDS are common. They are forced to live in unhygienic conditions, packed tight in small rooms with no good washroom facilities too. Being good looking is an added curse for a young widow. Many are illiterate and do not know about old age pensions or widow pensions.

Many human rights group and govt of India are doing their best to improve the life of these destitute women, but it is long fight
