The present state of waste management, particularly in less developed countries is horrible. Owing to corruption and lack of awareness, people in developing countries don't pay much attention to garbage management, not to mention spending money on it. As a result of this most of the cities in such countries are a poor sight. Heaps of garbage and waste lie uncleaned; the municipal corporations in these cities are flagrantly inefficient. All pervasive stink makes the life of inhabitants unbearable. All this is very unhygienic. A very affordable solution to this problem is waste management by burning it and converting it into compost and using it in landfills where the quality of the soil is poor. This won't only rid the cities of squalor and stink, but also improve the fertility of the sandy soil where the government can plant a huge number of trees for better oxygen supply to the pollution-choked cities. It is easier said than done. Even to put this affordable strategy, initiative is required. The corrupt government is riddled with lethargic workforce. Now, the common man who is bearing the brunt of this negligence, will have to come forward. Some responsible citizens must take the initiative. NGOs can be roped in. The government will have to take some action too. Thus waste management through landfills is very viable option.
