There's no all-encompassing answer for this question. The sex ratio is variable, dependent on cultural overtones, preference, and acceptable practices.

I'm of the opinion that material inheritance and the prospects of dowry have a strong correlation to sex ratio. Most parts of India consider the male child as potential inheritors and opportunities to derive wealth for the family. This also arises from undue importance given to the male child. However, there are regions where this trend is not visible, like in Kerala, where many regions followed a matriarchal line of succession; property was passed through the female line. This is possibly why Kerala has a positive sex ratio. I cannot speak on this for certain

hope this helps

Answer :-

Decreasing Number of Females in the country

It is really sad that with the passage of time the number of females in proportion to males has been drastically decreasing. Sex ratio in Delhi where people are more educated than other places is decreasing much. It was 867, 809, 823, 822 per 1000 each in 1991, 2001, 2003 and 2005 respectively. However, there was a slight increase of 9 in the year 2006 from 2005. If this continues, the civilized survival of the human race will greatly be threatened.

All know how females are important for the continuity and survival of the human race. The fall may be due to many reasons like dowry, other superstitious beliefs like the salvation of the parents by their male child etc. But this sex ratio foretells unhappy developments for the human society. The northern states of the country are already feeling these effects. Youngmen do not find young brides. So girls to be brides are being bought from Jharkhand, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. The young men can be a potent threat to the law and order situation of the society if they remain unmarried. It is very very difficult to kill one's natural and biological urges.

All educated and others should change their outlook about the importance of girl child. She can create a heaven by her qualities of head and heart when she grows up.
