(Save water. Save future) .
Answers
Answer:
Rivers are the lifeline for all life forms. All the
civilizations in our world were born, grew, and developed on the banks of
rivers. They are the veins of the earth through which life flows. Rivers not
only make our planet habitable, they also make it exceedingly beautiful.
Rivers are invaluably useful for man, animals, and plants. They
are the source of potable water, irrigation for agriculture, power generation,
transport, food, recreation and leisure, etc. Since man’s life depends so much
upon rivers, it is his bounden duty to keep them in perfect health and pollution
free. However, owing to rapid industrialization and urbanization, rivers have
been highly polluted. They have become huge dumping reservoirs.
We must ensure there is no pollution of rivers by dumping
any waste such as, sewage, effluents, and other toxic substances. The people
and the government must ensure installation of effluents treatment plants at
industrial, garbage, and sewage units. By being the proactive stewards of this
rare life-supporting element can we preserve and conserve it.
Clean, pure, sparkling rivers with abundant aquatic life
reflect the cleanliness of the people who live on its banks. Their cleanliness
is the indicator of the health level of the people inhabiting their banks. We must
preserve our rivers because our own preservation is directly linked to their
conservation.

Explanation:
“Rivers: The Nectar of Life”
The epic Mahabharata traces the advent of Bhagirathi and its transformation to India’s most sacred river –the Ganga. In the Bible we are acquainted with the river of Babylon and in Egypt we find ‘The gift of the Nile’. Civilisation has thrived time and again on the bosom of a river. From the river it has drunk the nectar of life. Agriculture, industry, factories, habitats have all striven at the expense of the rivers. Not a city or town exists without a river. Yet greedy Man has forever exploited the rivers.
Mumbai’s intense water logging is because of the human blockage of the Mithi River. The floods in Kedarnath and Badrinath are an outcome of the encroaching of the banks of the river Ganga by the humans. Stupendous dams and barrages have restricted the natural flow of the rivers. To add to it is Man’s merciless pollution of the river waters.
Generation of hydro-electricity is the need of the day. All rivers are being heavily over used for the purpose. The bursting population is also adding fuel to the fire. The over-consumption of water is causing an acute water shortage. Also all factories are dumping their wastes into the rivers. This is making the water contaminated. The marine life thriving in the water is also suffering for it.
Thus if we want a safe and good future we have to save the rivers.
Our motto must be: Save water, Save future.
