I believe in sports uniting us in many different ways. This means it for the people involved in them that they share this bond with each other that is not describable. Also it gives certain people that family feeling that they may have never experienced before. Times get rough and it seems like there is no hope, but teammates have each other’s back at all times. Everyone on a team almost never all agree or like each other, but when push comes to shove will be there for each other when it matters most.
For me it was always football. I grew up playing football, all the way through high school. I went to G High school where football and wrestling is everything. From the principle all the way down to the janitor football is preached at G. It wasn’t about being the biggest, strongest, or fastest that won football games. It was the ones that had the most heart, pride, hustle, desire, and love for each other.
As a freshman at G I started playing football for the school. On our freshman team during the season we had about eight kids ineligible, which meant they were not passing at least four of their classes. The smarter kids on the team on weekends would help out those that needed it. We would do this at the school after our Saturday game or practice. We would get some desks and chairs and put them in the gym. We would make our own study tables.
During my senior year is when we really became a family. We had been with each other for your years and knew everything about each other. Whenever anyone of us needed help on or off the field, we helped. My senior year my close cousin died in a car accident and I was feeling terrible. My teammates and coaches rallied around me and got me threw probably the hardest time of my life. It might not seem like much but it was a huge deal for me. That was the guy that would always push me to be better on the field. As a young kid, he was the one that would take me to my games and practice. He was my coach on and off the field. He not only taught me about football, but also was a good role model for me. Most of my teammates and coaches attended my cousin’s wake with me, and that proved to me that we truly are a family. That is why I believe in sports uniting us in many different ways that you can’t explain sometimes.
