India is a vast country and represents a blend of different castes, regions, religions, cultures, people and traditions. People have different tastes, eating habits, languages, dresses and dialects across the country yet share common sentiments of being Indian. The feeling of patriotism and nationalism are the common feelings which exist irrespective of any difference. The diversity can be witnessed in almost all the spheres of the country.

There are hilly regions in the North and some other parts of the country, which are cold. The regions in the South are comparatively hot. There are regions which have humid weather throughout the year and there are dry deserts of Rajasthan. The difference in climatic conditions lead to the difference in the clothing of the people which adds to the diversity quotient.

Indian civilisation is a classic example of the coexistence of unity in diversity. This unity has successfully stood the tests of time. India is plural society, It is a repository of different traditions, cultures and religions. Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Muslim, Sikhs and Christians have been living harmoniously under canopy of India. The Constitution of our country highlights India as a secular country where different religions co-exist. People have respect and tolerance for the other religions and their beliefs. This is because the core values of all the religions revolve around the principles of humanity and mutual respect.

National unity and integrity have been maintained even though sharp economic and social inequalities have obstructed the emergence of equalitarian social relations. It is the synthesis, which has made India a unique mosaic of cultures. India is , in fact, a panorama of its own types without a parallel in other continents. The unity of India is reflected in its moral and spiritiual values. It has upheld its cohesiveness and strength against all the foreign invaders. It was this unity only which  helped Indians to overthrow the the British rule and become independent.

Foreign invasions, immigration from other parts of the world and the existence of diverse languages, cultures and religions have made India's culture tolerant, on the other hand, and a unique continuing and living culture with its specificity and historicity on the other. It is the moral and spiritual values of India which have remained the same since time immemorial. These values play the role of a unifying factor among the masses. These moral and spiritual values define the Indian culture and have carved a niche for India on the global map.

India is known as land of saints. The people of India are highly religious and spiritual. All the spiritual gurus and different religious leaders have emphasised on the importance of evolution and beauty of the inner soul. The sacred books of different religious tech of salvation, purification of the soul and the theory of Karma. Holi, Diwali, Christmas, Budh Jayanti, Mahavir Jayanti, Eid etc are celebrated with pomp and show across the country.

However , there are certain social elements and external forces which have played havoc with the unity of our country. Politicians have tried to weaker the unity of country in order to reserve and safeguard their vote banks. They have smartly played the cards of caste and religions in order to strengthen their foot.

Assimilation, absorption accommodation and incorporation have been the hall-mark of Indian culture unity. When one ponders a little over all there diversities, seeming paradoxes and varieties, they fade away into India's basic cultural unity and oneness.

Hola!

DIVERSITY IN THE INDIAN SOCIETY

India is a vast country. To be accurate it is a large country with a large population. Population included people from all religions and castes. To be more accurate it should be said that India is 'diverse' country.

Let's observe each case one by one -:

India has a rich source of physical structures that differ from each other. Eg: The Himalayas, the Deccan Plateau etc. All these physical structures are different. They are found in different places and have unique features. Also they are found at a particular region which suits their personality. Like you will not find a snowy mountain in a desert. Neither you will find sands on snow peaks.

Culturally India is said to be the most diverse country. It can also be referred as a 'mixed bag'. People from different religions have different cultures and languages. Though most people of India tend to follow a particular language, there are some people who follow their mother language.

Diversity among people can be seen in :

Their cultures
Their way if dressing
Their place of worship
Their language
Their food style

Let's observe each case one by one:

(For each case I have chosen 2 states: West Bengal and Kerala)

CULTURE
India has a rich tradition and culture. Eg: People of West Bengal follow a very traditional way in every festival while people of Kerala have a different way. Also their festivals are different. The people of West Bengal have their most glorious festival 'Durga Puja', while for the people of Kerala boat races are of important value

DRESSING
Women of West Bengal are traditionally covered in sarees. Though women of Kerala also use saree but their style is very different. Sarees of Kerala are white while that of the West Bengal is of different colours

WORSHIP
Here States will not differ. In this case religion is the most important factor. Hindus pray in temples, Muslims in mosques, Sikhs in gurdwara, Christians in church

LANGUAGE
Language us different for each case. People in West Bengal speak fluent Bengali while people of Kerala tend to follow South Indian languages.

FOOD STYLE
People of West Bengal have their 'Bengali food' while people of Kerala feed on south Indian dishes.

HOPE THIS HELPS...
