Answer:In today's world, with the significant increase in medical facilities, improvisation in sanitation and nutrition the birth rate are on a new high and the death rate are on a low. The difference between birth rate and death rate is the rate at which population grows. When the birth rate exceeds the death rate by a significant amount the resulting situation is that of over population.
As per the report of United Nation Population Fund, the total population is predicted to be nearly 10billion by 2025 and shall grow to 14 billion by the end of next century until and unless birth control measures are used dramatically.
Population explosion is a growing problem in developing countries especially India - Second largest population in the world.
In India, population is growing at an alarming rate which is a major problem as resources are limited but number of people are growing leading to an increasing pressure on the resources causing inflation at this alarming rate.
CAUSES
The major cause for over population are:
1.Social Beliefs : It's a social belief that a child is a gift of God believing in which people tend to have more and more kids as gifts of God increasing population.
2.In poor people, it's a belief that more the number of kids more are the number of earning hands whereas it consistently increases pressure on land ( a fixed resource ) leading to high land rate.
3.Lack of awareness is the most common phenomenon due to which many people have kids.
4.Significant increase in medical attention due to various developments in medical sciences leading to high birth rate and low death rate.
5.Industrialisation had employed many leading to higher number of people getting food.
6.Conquest of cure of various diseases like Chicken Pox etc leading to decrease in natural death.
CONSEQUENCES AND SOLUTIONS
Consequences
Population explosion has various ill effects. High fertility rates have historically been a witness to poverty, and high child mortality rates on the other hand falling fertility rates have been associated to improved standard of living, increased life expectancy and lowered infant mortality.
Poverty is a condition signified by deprivation of basic needs of an individual. Poverty is a major curse as it reduces human beings to lower standard of living. A lack of basic needs leads to physical weakness and poor health.
Poverty is a vicious circle leading to deeper and deeper into it and should be broken instead of letting it persist as dense population majority lack food, shelter, education and employment.
SOLUTIONS OFFERED
More public awareness is required to prevent high birth rate. Size and growth of population should be there in every human's mind.
Family planning and women education should be focused to prevent delivery death rates. Free access to health care and family planning is desired to combat unwanted fertility.
Teachers, parents, politicians, social workers and other informed citizens play a key role in creating awareness and educating the society.
In India the following are the measures:
Many schemes like "Hum Do Humare Do " have been introduced.
Giving special education rebate to parents who have two or less kids.
Government has launched various institutions for educating the village couples.
Introduction of sex education in Xth as per CBSE norms has been a tremendous contribution towards educating kids in their early years.
