Aryabhatta was one of the greatest mathematicians of ancient India. Born in ‎476 CE, he had immense knowledge in the field of astronomy too. He inferred that the Earth is spherical and rotates on its axis which. He found the formulas to calculate the areas of triangles and circles. He gave an explanation to the occurrence of solar and lunar eclipses. He even proposed the geocentric model of the solar system and laid the foundation for the concept of gravity. His contribution in mathematics is unparalleled, such as, arithmetic, algebra, plane and spherical trigonometry etc. His famous works include ''Aryabhatiya'' and ''Arya-siddhanta''. He calculated pi (π) when he measured the diameter of a circle in a remainderless unit and then measured the circumference in the same unit.
