                                          Vehicular Pollution

Vehicles, vehicles everywhere; not a space to put your foot on the roads. Vehicles were invented for the convenience of man, but see their travesty; they have become a nuisance and a source of so much inconvenience for him! Owning a car is considered a status symbol. This has led to phenomenal increase of number of vehicles on the roads. The number of vehicles have been rising drastically in all the cities in India. It is estimated that approximately 217.7 tons of carbon monoxide is emitted in all the metropolitan cities. Similarly, 66.7 tons of hydrocarbons are released in the air every day. Other pollutants such as lead, Sulphur dioxide, and particulate matter are released into the air.

These pollutants cause many serious health hazards such as cough, nausea, headache, irritation of eyes, various bronchial and visibility problems. The Government and people must join hands to overcome this problem. The Government must ban very old vehicles; the Government must also start providing electrical vehicles to people at subsidized cost. People must also adopt pollution free vehicles.

Cars increase mobility of people and it helps them to travel from place to place. There are different models and makes of cars these days and it is considered fashionable to own big, expensive cars.

There are so many cars running on our roads that accidents, pollution and parking space problems are common. Reckless driving is a major cause for accidents on the road. Petrol and diesel vehicles add to air pollution, with their exhaust discharge. Parking in most cities is a major problem that governments have started banning cars in certain areas.
