School Punishments are Perpetually scarring
by- X
School punishments are agonizing and cause mental distress and humiliation to students, according to researchers. They make students dread school more than they already do. Teachers believe that punishments enable the child to reflect on mistakes and inculcate discipline that can be propagated in students by virtue of 'understanding'. This is a blatant lie. It spreads terror among students and propagates feelings of hatred and isolation.
Conduct that usually leads to punishment usually has hidden anxiety locked in the person's mind that causes him to act out. They are isolated and unable to articulate their emotions rationally and eventually, they act on a whim that they regret later. As the famous saying goes-"Children often need a good listening to rather than a good speaking to."
This holds true in most cases.
Children who endure such punishments have reported feeling humiliated, anxious, scared or have even cried. In some cases, they are even bullied and ridiculed by other students for being frail or not following through the rules. Such students, in extreme situations, cut off from their peers and turn into introverts. They remember such ghastly incidences through their lifespan and regret it.
A better method should be researched to make the child reflect and understand his mistakes. Preferably one that does not subject him/her/them to humiliation, hatred, bullying, anxiety or embarrassment. Perhaps, listening to the child and understand his/her/their perspective will prove to be better than the former techniques of reputation degradation.
