Answer:

We live in a time and age where information is just a button press away. We are swayed by information all around us. We millennials want to know, read, understand and then speak our minds about it. That is where social media comes into play. Social media is one of the biggest elements that we live with and cannot ignore it.

Social media is collection of websites, applications and other platforms that enable us to share or create content and also helps us to participate in social networking. Social media is not limited to blogging and sharing pictures, there are lot of strong tools also that social media provides. That is because that the impact of social media is very high and far reaching. It can make or break images.

But social media is a topic of controversy today, many feel it’s a boon but there is a majority who feels that it is a curse. Mostly people feel that social media has destroyed human interaction with a rapid rate and has modified modern human relationships. But there are others who feel that it is a blessing that has connected us to every part of the world, we can meet our loved ones that are far, we can spread awareness through it, we can send security warnings etc. There is a lot that social media can do. But it is an unarguable fact the presence of social media has made our lives convenient, easier and much faster.

Answer:                                Social media: Friend or foe?                                                                                                     Yusa Mishimori             Be it Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram or WhatsApp, social media is everywhere and forms a necessary part of our every day lives. Although social media has made us more social creatures, it has also adversely affected the way we interact with people.        Many parents worry about how exposure to technology might affect children developmentally. A survey was conducted that asked 14- 24 year olds in the UK how social media impacts their health and wellbeing.  The survey results found that social media all lead to increased feeling of depression, anxiety, poor body image and loneliness.      In a way,  texting and online communicating puts everybody in a nonverbal, disabled contextwhere body language,  facial expression and even the slightest verbal reactions are rendered invisible. Speaking indirectly creates a barrier to clear communication.        Another threat that comes from communicating indirectly is the danger of cyberbullying. Girls are particularly at risk. Girls are socialized more to compare themselves to other people. This way kids spend hours pruning their online identities trying to project an idealized image. This leads to lower self esteem and anxiety.        Parents do play an influential role in shaping their children's social life. Setting a good example for them and warning them of the dangers of improper use of social media can help children overcome the hazards posed by online communication.  Speaking directly to a person not only improves communication skills but also teaches manners and respect between people.
