                                                 Value of Games

Who is there who may not have heard the sayings ‘A healthy mind lives in a healthy body’, and ‘All study and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. Sports and games are undoubtedly the building blocks of the health of children. Their importance in the over-all and holistic development of children cannot be denied.

There are many benefits of games and sports in a student’s life. Games and sports activities break the ennui of the academics. Organizing games programs and sports days in the school makes school a much more interesting place. They make education more romantic. Children love to participate in these colourful activities. Indirectly these activities bring out their latent talent to the surface.

According to the recent educational reforms in the form of CCE pattern all across India, the co-curricular and extracurricular activities have been given a lot of importance in the entire framework of education. According to these reforms, organizing games and sports in the school is as mandatory as conducting academic activities. Not only organizing these activities, but also giving grades to students for participating in games and sports activities. These grades are to be included in their report cards under the column of co-scholastic achievements.

However, the unfortunate thing is games and sports are dwindling from our life. Their invaluable place has been usurped by digital, virtual world. As a consequence, the modern generation is facing many health issues. The contemporary generation has become very weak physically, which has weakened other aspects of the overall health.

The elders, teachers, parents, educationists, and the government must concertedly do something to make games and sports not only popular among the young children but also easily accessible to them.

                                                 Global Warming

Elon Musk has very wisely commented, “We’re running the most dangerous experiment in history right now, which is to see how much carbon dioxide the atmosphere... can handle before there is an environmental catastrophe.”

Our wise elders have given us various maxims to live happily. One of them is ‘Excess of everything is bad.’ This maxim defines the present state of carbon dioxide in our environment quite aptly and relevantly. Excess of this gas in our atmosphere has wreaked havoc with the balance of our environment. Owing to man’s selfish greedy activities, this gas assumed such a dangerous proportion in the atmosphere that if no immediate action is taken, it will soon bring an unmanageable catastrophe.

Global warming has already started affecting the entire world. Climatic changes are noticeable everywhere. Ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earth’s poles. This includes mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice.

In northern Greenland traditional Inuit culture is already under threat. The sea ice that Inuit use to hunt seals, walruses, and other animals, is not staying as long as it used to. Global warming's impact on sea ice and ocean currents are also altering the distribution of animals. Melting of the huge ice sheet on Greenland will raise the sea-water level by a few feet, leading to submerging of habitable coastal areas and compelling the inhabitants to move farther inside the terrain. This would further have ecological ramifications.

The people of the world must unite and stop global warming from further rising. Green house gases’ emission must immediately be controlled along with the large scale afforestation in all the countries, especially the developing countries.

If the environment is not given the top priority throughout the world, we will lose it forever; losing it means the annihilation of the entire humankind along with all other life-forms of flora and fauna! Do you want it to happen? If no; kindly start doing as much as you can for the preservation of the environment!
