Increasing number of road accidents over the year

Increasing road accidents on roads is one of the most alarming problems in our country. Every year the number of causalities caused by accidents is on the rise.

Vehicles were invented for the convenience of man, but see their travesty; they have become a nuisance and a source of so much inconvenience for him! You must be wondering whether vehicles have gone amok. No! It is the foolish man who has gone berserk! Vehicles on their own don't knock anyone down. It is the careless, indifferent man behind the wheel that makes the vehicles behave violently. Driving without care for others' safety is the sole cause of accidents. Added to it is the poor implementation of the traffic rules by the incompetent traffic control department. As a result hundreds of people either get killed or maimed.

The teenagers can be seen zapping motor bikes, and cars on crowded roads. They neither have the driving sense, nor any care for others’ safety, which often results in accidents. Most of the news on media about accidents show teenagers fault. According to Road Accident Statistics India 1214 road crashes occur every day in India. 377 people die in road accidents every day.  20 children under the age of 14 die every day due to road crashes in the country. One serious road accident in the country occurs every minute and 16 people die on Indian roads every hour.

Keeping in mind the shocking statistics, it becomes imperative to introduce learning road safety measures at schools and colleges. Schools and colleges must make road safety measures an integral part of curriculum. The traffic police must give training of road safety measures to students. They can be taken to road safety learning parks and trained there.

Parents must be included in the road safety programmes. They must be taught not to give vehicles to their children. The traffic police must organize vehicle training sessions in schools. The students must be given demonstrations on safe driving skills. The government must take stricter actions against the defaulters. People also, while driving must be more vigilant and ensure they follow all the safety rules meticulously.
