Harnessing Solar Energy a Viable Option for India

Realization of India’s developmental goals depends upon power generation directly. If India’s engine of growth has to move faster, it needs uninterrupted power supply. India has abundance of natural resources. The solar energy is one of them.

In a country like India, if this abundant amount of sunlight available is harnessed properly it will be infinitely advantageous to the nation in many ways. India is in the sunny zone of the world. The country receives solar energy equivalent to more than 5000 trillion KWH per year, which is far more than its total annual energy consumption. Besides, no other energy source is as renewable and clean as the solar energy is. Taking both environmental and economic cost, solar energy works cheaper than fossil fuel resources. Tapping and using this abundant solar energy will not only solve the country’s energy demand, but also bring down dangerous levels of air pollution in the country.

It is high time we started using solar-powered vehicles to solar-generated power to do our day to day work. The Government must act proactively in this regard. It must provide the solar power generation infrastructure and electric vehicles to people. People must also come forward to adopt solar power generation schemes and initiatives. There should be more research and development on solar power generation sector.

In conclusion it can be said, India can do wonders if the abundant solar energy sources is harnessed.
