Monsoon is the season in India which comes after the summer. The kiss of the cold rain on our faces comes as a great relief after the sweltering heat of the summers. The monsoon is,however, not an unmixed blessing. The same clouds which bring comfort to the city-dwellers is sometimes a curse for farmers of the villages, who have their fields and lands, carefully attended to for months, washed away by the merciless flow.Months of labour is destroyed in seconds. Some huts also get damaged and washed away by floods and storms. Some low-lying villages get so flooded that they sweep away people and articles with their abominable currents. These situations cost many their employment as well as their loved ones.
This season brings diseases to cities and rural areas.Mosquitoes breed in dark areas where there is stagnant water. They cause malaria, dengue and several other woes.Children especially suffer from cough and cold and fever.Clouds envelop the sky so suddenly that people without umbrellas or objects of protection are forced to run for shelter. These shelters are sometimes so crowded that less fortunate people have to wait in the downpour.Clothes take more time than ever to get dry.
But is Mother Nature, whom we blame, wholly responsible for all this? The Earth is now more polluted than ever and the quantity of acid rain in natural habitats is lowering their numbers as well as that of animals.Trees are being cut by the same humans who face difficulties at an alarming rate.Icebergs are melting and raising water levels. If this happens there will be no land to live on one day. So,we should 'go green' to reduce natural disasters.
