Misuse of money in Dusshera and making canopy
The issue of undue squandering of national wealth in so called religious festivals has become quite serious. It has been observed that money and resources worth millions of rupees are squandered unnecessarily over glitz and gimmicks, which in realty are not desired by God or deities; they are the expression of people’s or organizers’ intentions. In all this gimmick and glamor, the true spirit and purpose behind these festivals appears to have been lost.
The challenges of modern times are many. Global warming, unplanned urbanization, industrialization, health care, sanitation, and cleanliness have become more important issues. We can’t ignore them. They require huge amount of funds to run smoothly. Our nation is facing many challenges. The huge amount of money and resources that are squandered in the glitz and gimmick of festivals, if spent in improving the environment, installing garbage treatment plants in the cities and towns, won’t it be true and ideal worship of God? After the festivals are over, huge amount of pollution, waste, and garbage is left in their wake. Recently I saw a religious Pandal on which millions of rupees had been spent.
People belonging to all religions and faiths must not indulge in such practices. The Government must look into it and do something in stopping this squandering of money in glitz and gimmicks in the name of religion. The same amount can be spent on charitable, and other projects for the welfare of the poor and the society.
Like every year, in this year Dusshehra also, there was a huge sum of money that was spent on making the canopy and the Ramleela figures with light and cloth for the event.
Along with the burning of the effigies, there were also a large amount spent on light and decoration.
This is completely useless as these firecrackers can take a toll on life.
