Increasing the emphasis on English language is logical given how English has become an international language. English connects different cultures and brings the world together. It opens up new avenues and opportunities in different parts of the world and increases international collaboration.
Yet the disadvantages of increasing emphasis on the English language are quite serious. English has reduced the significance of local languages, to the point that a person who doesn’t know English feels embarrassed. As a result, indigenous languages, literature and so, culture are being wiped out because of the importance being enjoyed by English.
The complexity of the problem is that while English is uniting the world, as a common language, at the same time, it is also invading local languages.
