An Atom can achieve inert gas electronic configuration by gaining, losing, or sharing valence electons in its valence shell. By doing so, it becomes and Ion with Negative or Positive charge.

An atom can acheive inert gas electron arrangement when its outermost shell has 8 electron.

To do this the elemnt either loose or gain electrons.

There are some elements which can neither loose nor gain electrons these type of elements share electrons

Hope It Helps
