MUGHAL GARDEN

The Mughal Garden is located in the complex of the Rashtrapati Bhavan situated in Central Delhi and was built for Lady Hardinge, wife of Lord Hardinge and designed by the famous architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens. The British are very fond of beautiful and picturesque landscaped gardens and one can see numerous gardens and parks in England that does not need mentioning.

The Mughal Gardens spans over an area of 13 acres and was designed in the British and Mughal style divided into three sections to form a circular shape, a rectangular shape and a long shape. A fountain is built in a disc shaped 3 tiered sandstone that forms the shape of a Lotus leaf at every intersection of the four waterway canals and multi level terraces with Chhatri are seen decorated with beds of various species of plants, shrubs, trees and flowers like Sweet Williams, Marigold, Roses, Bougainvillea and many more.

The circular shaped garden has terraced flower beds where different species of butterflies can be seen meandering around and hence, is also popularly known as the Butterfly Garden or Pearl Garden.

The rectangular shaped garden is also dotted with chequered flowers of different colours and varieties along a beautiful string of Trees.

The Long shaped garden is seen with many Bougainvillea creepers grown around with trimmed hedges and a bed of Roses and various small colourful flowers that look like tiny knots on a massive carpet of grass on a beautiful plot and lawns that makes this Garden an enchanting haven and a virtual paradise deserving every applaud and praise.

The Mughal garden is dotted with more than 250 varieties of Roses including the Benkinsian Rose species which is known to be the parent species of all the following Roses. There are over 60 different types of Bougainvilleas, 13 different coloured Dahlias and one of the largest collection of Marigold flowers. The Indian Moulsari Trees and other variety of Trees are also seen fringed on this planned landscape transforming it into an oasis while adding a Midas touch to it.
