Answer :

(i) Decomposition in the presence of heat:-

  • Decomposition of ferrous sulphate crystals is carried out by energy supplied in the form of heat.
  • Reaction is as follows:-

\rm{2FeSO_4(s)\xrightarrow{\text{heat}}Fe_2O_3(s)+SO_2(g)+SO_3(g)}

(ii) Decomposition in the presence of light:-

  • Decomposition of silver iodide to form silver and iodine is carried out by energy supplied in the form of light.
  • Reaction is as follows:-

\rm{2AgI(s)\xrightarrow{\text{light}}2Ag(s)+I_2(s)}

(iii) Decomposition in the presence of electricity:-

  • Decomposition of molten lead bromide to lead and bromine is carried out by energy supplied in the form of electricity.
  • Reaction is as follows:-

\rm{PbBr_2(l)\xrightarrow{\text{electricity}}Pb(s)+Br_2(l)}

★︎ Extra Information:-

Decomposition reaction:

  • A reaction in which a single reactant is split or broken down into a number of simpler products (when supplied with energy in the form of heat, light or electricity).

  • Example: burning of limestone.
