hi/ho = v/u = magnification
where, hi = height of image
ho = height of object
v = distance of image from the optical centre
h = distance of object from the optical centre

=-v/u
That means that magnification is equals to height(size) of image by height(size) of object which is equal to image distance which is negative by object distance in the case of mirror ........
If it is in the case of lens only one difference that is image distance is positive..
