Answer:

Many festivals are celebrated all over the year in India but I like Holi festival the most. Holi is one of the greatest festival of Hindus. It is a festival of colours. This festival falls on a full moon day in Phalgun Month of Hindu Calender. I like it most because this festival brings lot of joy and happiness. The story behind the Holi festival is that there was a king named Hiranya kashyap, he had a son, Prahlad, a holy spirit and highly devoted to God but Prahlad's devotion enraged Hiranya kashyap and he planned to kill his own son. He asked her sister Holika, who was immune to fire, to sit in fire taking Prahlad in her lap. Fortunately Prahlad, who was blessed by Lord, was saved and Holika was burnt to ashes.Holi is also a festival of love and unity and celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The festival is celebrated with lot of pomp in north India. After a fun filled and exciting day, the evenings are spent in sobriety when people meet friends and relatives and exchan sweets and festive greetings.

A FESTIVAL YOU ENJOYED

A festival is a celebration of life. It is always marked by unleashed joy and gaiety. As the age-old Bengali saying goes that “there are thirteen festivals in twelve months” proves that West Bengal is a land of festivals. From Naba Barsha to Doljatra, festivals fill the Bengali calender year. But the festival which every Bengali looks forward to is the Durga Puja. Four days of fun and merry-making give us the energy to work for the rest of the year. Durga Puja is the celebration of the victory of the good over the evil. Goddess Durga, the symbol of absolute power and the savior of mankind, kills Mahishasura, the emblem of evil and destroyer of mankind. In these four days, people irrespective of their caste and creed, or economic position enjoy to the fullest. Putting on new clothes, they hop from pandal to pandal with zest and enthusiasm. The city streets and the pandals are decorated with lights. Durga Puja is also an occasion of family get-together. People from abroad join their family members after years to spend some time together. At the end of the four days, gloom and sadness descends as the idol of the Goddess is immersed and people start counting days for Durga-ma’s arrival in the next year.
