AnswEr :-

The points mentioned below are to be critically noted when we deal with the Direct and Indirect forms of narration :-

※ Always remember to enclose the direct speech within inverted commas.

Never change the tense of the reporting verb.

※ If the verb inside the inverted commas is about a Universal truth, don't change the tense.

► If the reporting verb is in Present tense or Future tense, don't change the tense.

» The following are  changed according to these certain rules if direct speech is to be changed into Indirect speech :-

→ Tenses

→ Personal and Possessive pronouns

Words denoting nearness of time and nearness of position.

Answer:

Essay for Direct Speech :

• The exact words of the speaker are placed within double inverted commas. A comma is placed immediately before the quoted words.

• Depending on the kind of sentence the end mark is a full stop, a question mark or a mark of exclamation.

• The first word within quotation marks begins with a capital letter.

Essay for Indirect Speech :

• Whenever you report a speech there’s a reporting verb used like “say” or “tell”.

• Indirect speech is a means of expressing the content of statements, questions or other utterances, without quoting them explicitly as is done in direct speech.
