My favourite singer is Lata Mangeshkar. She is recognized as one of the greatest singers of modern times. To her credit are more than seventy thousand songs in various Indian languages recorded and filmed so far. She possesses a God gifted voice, rare in the world.
Lata was born in a family where music was adored and practiced with devotion. The entire Mangeshkar family including her father, brother and sisters were all dedicated to music. Lata came to be known as a prominent playback singer at the age of eleven.
It is really something great in human life that at such a tender age, one is picked up with care to sing for famous Indian films. Her popular song, ayega anewala, sung in her teenage days, still rings in our ears and creates a wonderful situation in the minds of the music lovers.

Lata’s devotional songs and the songs based on Indian classical music are superb. She got the opportunity of singing under the training of almost all the great music directors of Indian film industry.
We have in our house a number of selected records and cassettes of the great singers, which give us tremendous entertainment in our days of joy and sorrow. Hence, Lata Mangeshkar is my favourite singer.
