jyotiba phule was a social reformer and thinker in the early 19th century. he was born in 11th april in satara, maharastra. his father govindrao phule was a vegetable - vendor,her family belonged to mali caste. his mother died when he was 9 month's old. he fight against the caste system in india with his wife savitribai phule. he also struggled for the rights of peasants and lower caste people. jyotiba phule is also known as the pioneer for women education in india and struggled a lot for girls education.
jyotiba got his education from Scottish Mission's High School, in Poona. at an very early age he married to savitribai .
joyitaba phule dream for providing women and girls the right for education was supported by his wife savitribai phule. at that time she was also a illiterate. but, jyotiba taught to read and write savitribai. jyotiba phule formed Satyashodhak Samaj with the objective of liberating the Shudras to prevent their "exploitation" by Brahmins.
After educating his wife, he opened a school for girls in India in August 1948. This was actually the second school for girls in India. He supported widow remarriage and started a home for upper caste widows in 1854. In the same year, he also started a home for new-born infants to prevent female infanticide. as this were the major practises , issues and problems in the 19th century.
