How I Spent My Durga Puja
Durga Pooja vacation was a wonderful time, full of fun, frolic and festivities. The entire region was decorated like new bride. The school was off for a week. Every day I went to the market with my parents to do shopping. In the evening we went to temple to pay obeisance to goddess Durga. The festival culminated with the immersion of the idol. I love this festival. This Pooja vacation I had lots of fun.
My classmate is from Punjab. He told me in northern India Durga Pooja is celebrated as Dussehra, to commemorate victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. Before Dussehra there are Navratras; the cities, towns, and villages hold fairs. Ramlila, the story of life of Lord Rama is staged at various places. Children go to watch it. People go to fairs. They buy toys and eat many delicacies.
The markets, temples, and shops are lighted and decorated. Finally, the effigies of Ravan, Kumbkaran, and Meghnath are burnt. This is symbolic of burning of evil. After Dussehra people start looking forward to the Diwali celebrations. So, Dussehra vacation bring lots of fun, joy, and frolic.
