A day I can't forget'
Everyone has experienced some good days, some bad days, some annoying days, some perfect days. But among all of them, any one day must have something very special which could not be forgotten easily.
The day which I could never forget was a very devastating day of my life. The day when I took part in the Inter School English Extempore. I have a keen interest in reciting poems, giving speeches and so I loved Extempores. An Extempore is a competition in which you are given topic on the spot and you should speak on the topic for about 2 minutes or so.
Whenever I took part in an Inter House Extempore competition, I was sure to get a prize in it, whether it be 1st, 2nd or 3rd. These prizes always encouraged me, prompted me to take part in extempores more. The love for Extempore was never dead in me. As the days passed, I got more and more praises for my skills. I was once asked by a teacher if I wished to take part in an Inter School English Extempore competition or not. I reluctantly said yes.
From that day on, I practised hard. I took the major topics and created speeches on them. I read them out aloud to learn them perfectly. I rehearsed the speeches in front of the mirror, to correct and put each necessary expression.
It was the day of the extempore, when I got tensed and nervous by seeing the huge mass of people and my competitors from different schools. I was panicking a lot when a teacher came near me and calmed me down saying, "Everything's going to be okay. Believe in yourselves". I was certainly seduced by her words. When it was my chance to speak up, I introduced myselves and then I went in total flow... But then the devastating moment occurred, I stammered, I forgot what to speak next, I was in a total loss of words. It seemed as if the whole world has darkened and I was the only one left behind. I tried hard to get some words but alas, couldn't succeed. Giving up, I said thank you and went backstage.
When I entered the backstage, I burst out in tears for not executing what I had planned to. I was desperate for giving the worst performance ever. But my teacher said, "it was not in your hands to win this competition and so you lost, but that doesn't mean you are a bad orator. Your nervousness was consuming you from inside and so you forgot what you had to speak." She and my friends consoled me and then I got courage. I felt that I would leave taking part in extempores forever.... But I didn't give up.... I practised harder and harder... And that I learnt a lesson, that it is not always mandatory for you taking part and winning the competition, participating is what that matters.
