when political institutions have been made representative and responsible, constitutional efforts have been made to empower people, especially the members of weaker sections to live in dignity with rights of liberty, equality and religious freedom. Initially, Constitution enshrined seven fundamental rights of citizens as a part of democratic polity. But, the Right to Property later by Amendment 44th converted into a legal right, because of the progressive laws of property compensations.

These rights are:

(1) Right to Equality

(2) Right to Freedom
(3) Right against Exploitation

(4) Right to Freedom of Religion

(5) Cultural and Educational Rights

(6) Right to Constitutional Remedies
Right to equality envisages that discriminations cannot be allowed in a democratic polity and social offences like untouchability are heinous crimes to be punished by law. Abolishing all distinctions on the basis of colour, caste, sex, creed or place of birth the specific right to equality heroically liberates our people from a social bondage of centuries.

The founding fathers have gone to the limit of mentioning details like access to shops, public restaurants, hotels and places of public entertainment which cannot be denied to weaker sections or untouchables under any excuse of religious purity.

Though quite comprehension in its meaning and scope this right permits the state to make special provisions for women, children or socially and educationally backward classes for their initial advancement. Notwithstanding agitations against reservation policy embodied in the Constitution, it is justified on the ground of equality of opportunity to all deprived citizens in matters relating to employment under the State Articles 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 talk about:

1. Socio-cultural equality and abolition of discriminations

2. Equality before law and public employment

3. Ban on untouchability

4. Equality of opportunities and status with positive discrimination through reservations

5. Abolition of titles
