Answer:

A person has 4 needs in Life - these are called Purushartha’s in Samskrit

Dharma (including the knowledge and character needed to achieve this) - Dharma has sub divisions[Morality, Litigations and Punishment] and Thiruvalluvar decides only to explain Morality that is common for all people. [Morality typically depends on place, one’s stature and situation]

Money/Economics and the politics and knowledge needed to achieve money so as to lead a Moral life

Enjoyment/Entertainment etc (Thiruvalluvar deals with a form of enjoyment that can be attained with all the five sensory organs at one time)

Liberation - Even though this is not dealt with directly, there are glimpses and ideas for liberation in Thirukkural. The reason why this is not dealt in detail and directly is because this is not something that can be taught and must be realized

Why is Thirukkural Special

Thiruvalluvar gets to the root of each of the objectives. It is amazing how he gets to the core of something within a poetic structure that only allows 7 words. Each Kural, though only has 7 words require 7000 words to be described in full.

Thirukkural talks about common practices that are applicable for every human being and there in transcends space time and material

It is easy to grasp the idea as each idea is expressed with 7 or fewer words

It is in a question and answer format and hence engaging

For every idea a cost benefit analysis is always done and Thirukkural lets the reader decide for herself

it has some Exceptional poetic value and is riddled with similes

if one learns Thirukkural fully and well, it gives the effect of learning the entire Tamil literature
